Origami Cranes for Peace Term 3 Week 4
Our students heard the story 'Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes', and a group of them were inspired to make 1,000 paper cranes, just like the young girl in the story. We threaded them together into strings, and they looked beautiful hanging in the class! We mailed them away to Hiroshima Japan, and hopefully they will arrive in time for the Peace Ceremony on August 6th. Peace and peacefulness are an important foundation of Montessori education. Maria Montessori herself said, "Averting war is the job of politicians. Establishing peace is the work of education." Every time children feel empathy for others, and seek to understand their difficulty, we are encouraging peace not just in the classroom but in the world to come. It's our job in the classroom to make the most of these opportunities, and highlight and encourage them in the class.
