Literacy

Literacy in English gives people access to to the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to play a full part in their communities and the world. By understanding how words and language work, our students are better equipped to make apppropriate language choices and use their skills in many contexts and situations.

Literacy learning is organised into two strands: making meaning from ideas and information received through listening, reading and viewing; and creating meaning through speaking, writing and presenting.

Students have opportunities to read and write picture books, short stories, comics, reports and novel. They learn to listen critically, and they have opportunities to speak to a variety of audiences both formally and informally. They can learn to develop story boards and compile photo essays, spreads and montages, as well as making and editing videos and short films.
