Year 2 to 6 Montessori in Rm 17
Welcome to Room 17! We have students who range in age from 6 to 12 in our classroom, as well as two teachers. The young-to-older age range of the students in our room means that children are exposed to others with a diversity of ability and maturity. This often allows children the opportunity to learn from and to teach each other, and to work/socialise at their ability level regardless of their age or year. The way the students conduct their day, both socially and academically, is designed to encourage and foster independence, responsibility, and initiative. Children have the freedom to choose aspects of their work, depending on their readiness and responsibility. This allows for the motivation to work which comes with choice and personal relevance. We have a respectful and inclusive group of students who work individually, and in small and large groups to accomplish daily and longer-term goals. Our Montessori curriculum fulfills the requirements of the New Zealand curriculum, and our students participate in school-wide testing measures and assessments which add to the extensive profile of work they accomplish in class.
Please look on our various pages for news and photos. This is a great way to share some of what is going on in our class. For reasons of privacy, some children and their work cannot be included on this site.
