The Connection

Week 8

Term 2

Huapai District School

June 15th 2023

Senior Leadership Message

In our visioning for our school we developed this statement as part of our graduate profile…
I’m challenged by the thought of how do we promote a mindset and culture of being brave, determined and carrying a can do mindset. Last year, I spent a week in hospital and in talking with Lindsay in the neighbouring hospital bed, we settled on an idea of buying some unicycles to provoke that mindset of grit and determination. We now have four unicycles and not one student who can ride them! Developing determination, grit and a can-do mindset is harder than you think and not necessarily achieved with a trick like buying 4 unicycles!!
Still, I remain hopeful!

There are (however) some wonderful examples (known and unknown) where children have risen up with determination, with character and with a statement inside their hearts that quietly whispers “I am brave, I am determined and I can do this”.

A quote from Ruby Tui’s excellent book 'Straight Up':

"I’m going to do something with my life.
How dare I not try and be the greatest
I can be with this Tui name on my back?"

Have a great week.

John Petrie
Principal

Immunisation Record Update

Given the recent comments in media around the rise and concern around measles immunisation, we thought it appropriate to ensure we have an up to date immunisation register. The link below provides an opportunity for parents to update this information. This form is a one minute exercise.
*Our apologies that last week's link had some permission access issues.

Community Survey Feedback #3

Sharing a little each week from our community survey (ratings out of 10).
There were lots of positive comments around our communication. We believe this to be a real key area to our success and support from our community. There were a number who indicated a preference for one form of communication and the challenge to reduce the variety of platforms, we will review this. There were a few frustrated with some issues around HERO as our communication base. We have gone back to the owners of HERO sharing these.

For those that seem to be logged out of HERO, we have been advised the following could be the reason behind this:
1. The time on your device doesn't match the time HERO is synced to.
2. If you are inactive in the Hero app for more than 15 days, then HERO will automatically log you out.
3. Apple sometimes disconnects apps and if this is the case, then please email HERO directly with your name and email address your HERO account is registered under and they can fix it at their end.

Tough Guy And Gal Challenge - Helpers Please!

WE NEED YOUR HELP! THIS IS OUR ANNUAL EVENT.

Each year we have the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars for our school by providing marshals for the local Tough Guy and Gal challenge. These funds are directed into learning resources for your children. This year we require 20 adults - parent / granny / uncle / neighbour / garden club friend to help us each day. The role is standing and pointing. It can even be done from the comfort of your camp chair should you wish! If you are able to assist for a morning, please use this form to register your interest.
**there has been a duty change and we are no longer required to supply marshals for Tuesday 1st August (this is the day our school will send a group of children).
Next week a poster will go up in each classroom showing how many parent volunteers your child’s class has - first three classes to have 5 volunteers earn a hot chip lunch!

Congratulations To Moananui

This team will play the staff in the final week of term.

Yummy Apple Sticker Promotion

A collection sheet is linked below, or each of the classrooms have one on their wall for use at school. Paper copies of the sheet can be collect from the school office should you wish.
