The Connection

Week 4

Term 3

Huapai District School

August 10th 2023

Senior Leadership Message

Last week was another huge statement of our school and community. We (as a school) committed to resource four days of mud run with adults monitoring the various challenges. During those four mornings we saw lots of people coming through and up for the challenge. We committed to putting up 20 adults each day - this then generated funds back into the school. Thank you to those who offered and supported. It’s easy money for the school and a great way to spend a few hours of absolute laughter.Saturday night we held our annual quiz night. Again a fantastic group of parents getting behind to make this work and, better still, a larger group of parents and friends of the school having a great night. It is really humbling to see the generosity parents brought to auctions and the evening knowing the school benefits. Our focus this year for our fundraising is to astro turf the court in front of the school. We have gained $15,000 from Fourwinds foundation (Charity), we have $20,000 of school funds assigned, we are hoping to fundraise $15,000. Our final push to see this happen is to encourage those parents yet to pay their school donation to do so, to get this project over the line. We are so close now. We only need another $12,000!
Thank you for all your support.

Principal

Upcoming Events

Thank You Team Huapai!

A huge thank you to all the family members who stepped up to marshal for our annual fundraising event as marshals for the Mud Run last week. We were able to raise $3,400 for our basketball courts resurfacing project. As a school, we value our community and hugely appreciate the efforts you go to in order to support us.
We have locked this in again for next year - watch this space!

Cross Country - TOMORROW

Friday 11th August

Huapai Kids can do tough stuff! This was the message delivered to our school at assembly last week. We talked about the upcoming cross country and how that for some students it is their favourite thing to do and for others, not so much. Either way, we will all be there, everyone will try their best and we will cheer for the effort being shown.

As the banks are so muddy, we will gather in house groups on the main field. Please pack something for your child to sit on e.g. tarpaulin / plastic bag. Please look for your child’s house flag and they will be nearby. Parents please give your child the space to run themselves and to show you what they can do. We will have seniors nearby if they need a hand. All finishers can have a sausage from the bbq after their race.

We encourage house colour dress ups and face-paint should they wish.

Students MUST wear shoes.

Scooter / Bike Thefts

Sadly, it appears that someone has decided to help themselves to several of our students’ wheels. We have been proud of our reputation as a safe place to leave bikes and scooters unlocked. The scooters and bikes appears to have been taken later in the afternoons i.e. between 3.30pm - 4.00pm, and is currently looking as if this is from people walking through the school later in the afternoon i.e. not our students. We are monitoring this closely at the moment trying to resolve this.
Until we can get to the bottom of this, we encourage your child to bring a bike lock to school to lock their bike into the racks and to park their scooter in the closet rack to their classroom. We ask that as a community, you help us keep eyes open for suspicious activity, adults without children carrying a scooter or anything that looks a bit out of place.
We hope that we get to the bottom of this quickly. If you have any info we’d be keen to know.

Update:
The scooters have been found - well some of them. Thanks to our community (yet again!).
To quote our awesome families:
“We saw two kids yesterday about 4pm riding on the two scooters down the main road so we followed them. Funny enough they didn’t look suspicious and even stopped at the shops, so we did the same… got their descriptions and then we posted this on the community page and a mother of a friend of the kids also saw them and told them to bring them back to school tomorrow”.

If this doesn’t get resolved by tomorrow we will follow this up again. These are not current children from our school - thank you.

Jump Jam 4 StarJam 2023

Huapai District School is taking part in JUMP JAM 4 StarJam 2023 on Friday 18th August. This exciting event will help Huapai District School to raise awareness around disability and promote health and wellness in our community. Please show your support and donate a gold coin. Your child/ren will receive a cool StarJam wristband. All funds raised will go to StarJam so they can continue to help young people with disabilities to unleash their potential through the magic of music, dance and performance.
