Week 6

Term 3

Huapai District School

August 24th 2023

Senior Leadership Message

This picture is the opposite of HDS. At Huapai District School - the sparkly bits are the best bits!
This week at our school Board Of Trustees meeting, we had presentations from the staff leaders of four different teams which work within areas of our wider school life. Leveraging Digital, Huapai Way, Assessment and Reporting and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. It was inspiring to hear the passion these staff members bring to areas. The overarching message was that they are here to make HDS the best school for you and for your children. We are not a school that simply does “reading, writing, ‘rithmetic”, rather we work to embrace all the sparkly bits.

Our dream for your child is that they grow as a well rounded global citizen able to stand tall and embrace challenge. Our dream for our community is that you see HDS as your school, your home and your whanau. A school where your “sparkly bits” are encouraged.

When I walked through school this week and within the same twenty minutes see children learning to ride unicycles, celebrating their reading success at a national level, camp preparations, maths outside on a large scale, student librarians teaching younger students, immersive role playing the NZ political system, circus training, children using computers to connect with people overseas, ukeleles in class, persuasive speeches about animal rights, PE with bubbles - I know we are on the right track!

Your children are all unique, as are our staff and our community. When everyone brings their sparkly bits to the school, our whole school shines brightly.

Thank you for your support as HDS continues to shine brightly.

Maree Lloyd
Deputy Principal

Upcoming Events

Teacher Only Day

Tuesday 24th October

Schools were allocated two (2) curriculum days this year and a further 2 in 2024 for curriculum development.
We are proceeding with this and have set this for Tuesday 24th October.
Our thinking is this may present opportunities for parents and also may give some options to alleviate Labour weekend traffic wows.
NB: Labour Weekend is Monday 23rd October.
Huapai + will run a programme on this day for parents requiring support.

Announcement Of School Donation Major Prize Draw

Thank you to all those who have paid their school donations this year. As we had promised earlier in the year we have 2 prize draws as a means of thanking families who paid their school donation in full by the end of Term 1. Apologies for the major prize draw and announcement not being made earlier.
Our major prize draw recipient is the Newman family of Studio 2A, who receive a Number Works tuition voucher to the value of $600 and 4 bottles of NZ wine. 2nd prize draw recipient is the Chen family of the Montessori unit, who receive a Huapai Plus 50% credit voucher to the value of $100 and 3 bottles of NZ wine. 3rd prize draw recipient is the Bun family of Room 2, who receive 3 bottles of NZ wine.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our school with your donations - enabling us to hit our 1st target this term. We will be announcing our smaller prize draw shortly for everyone who has donated, as a further means of thanking and acknowledging your support.
Acknowledging the support of our major prize draw sponsors:

Camp Pay It Forward

Are you a family who is willing to support a child attend camp who could not afford to do so otherwise?
If this is something you are interested in, please contact or pay it forward using the Pay It Forward items on Kindo. You can also contact the School Office for bank account details.

Sponsorship For Netball Uniforms

We are keen for our players to have new uniforms but the cost is beyond our budget. Each uniform dress is around $60 each. In order to keep a range of sizes in stock for the years going forward we need about 50 of them. Is your company keen to have its name on new netball uniforms for the school? We are looking for either one main sponsor or several sponsors to help us with the cost of this large investment of around $3,000.
Design to be confirmed once sponsorship is arranged. Please contact to discuss.

Centennial Soccer

This is set for next Thursday afternoon at 3:30pm at the Domain. Please consider popping down to cheer on the teams.

Congratulations To Room 7 - Reading Eggs

Congratulations to Room 7 who came 3rd in New Zealand for their Reading Eggs challenge.

Celebrating Our Kids

Highlighting Abigail Wilson (Montessori unit) who has not only had a reasonably long stint on the TV show “Shortland Street” but has now had an article about her featuring in the recent “Woman’s Day” magazine. Great to see our Huapai children shining.

Kickstart Breakfast Club Update

Thanks to information being added to Hero, we now have a comprehensive list of students with food allergies and dietary requirements. This means that we no longer need to check this with permission requests as all staff and volunteers assisting with breakfast club will be able to check allergies / dietary requirements for students coming to breakfast club for the first time.

Please keep the office updated with any changes to allergies / dietary requirements. Thank you.
