Senior Leadership Message
This picture is the opposite of HDS. At Huapai District School - the sparkly bits are the best bits!
This week at our school Board Of Trustees meeting, we had presentations from the staff leaders of four different teams which work within areas of our wider school life. Leveraging Digital, Huapai Way, Assessment and Reporting and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. It was inspiring to hear the passion these staff members bring to areas. The overarching message was that they are here to make HDS the best school for you and for your children. We are not a school that simply does “reading, writing, ‘rithmetic”, rather we work to embrace all the sparkly bits.
Our dream for your child is that they grow as a well rounded global citizen able to stand tall and embrace challenge. Our dream for our community is that you see HDS as your school, your home and your whanau. A school where your “sparkly bits” are encouraged.
When I walked through school this week and within the same twenty minutes see children learning to ride unicycles, celebrating their reading success at a national level, camp preparations, maths outside on a large scale, student librarians teaching younger students, immersive role playing the NZ political system, circus training, children using computers to connect with people overseas, ukeleles in class, persuasive speeches about animal rights, PE with bubbles - I know we are on the right track!
Your children are all unique, as are our staff and our community. When everyone brings their sparkly bits to the school, our whole school shines brightly.
Thank you for your support as HDS continues to shine brightly.

Teacher Only Day
Schools were allocated two (2) curriculum days this year and a further 2 in 2024 for curriculum development.
We are proceeding with this and have set this for Tuesday 24th October.
Our thinking is this may present opportunities for parents and also may give some options to alleviate Labour weekend traffic wows.
NB: Labour Weekend is Monday 23rd October.
Huapai + will run a programme on this day for parents requiring support.

Sponsorship For Netball Uniforms
We are keen for our players to have new uniforms but the cost is beyond our budget. Each uniform dress is around $60 each. In order to keep a range of sizes in stock for the years going forward we need about 50 of them. Is your company keen to have its name on new netball uniforms for the school? We are looking for either one main sponsor or several sponsors to help us with the cost of this large investment of around $3,000.

Kickstart Breakfast Club Update
Thanks to information being added to Hero, we now have a comprehensive list of students with food allergies and dietary requirements. This means that we no longer need to check this with permission requests as all staff and volunteers assisting with breakfast club will be able to check allergies / dietary requirements for students coming to breakfast club for the first time.
Please keep the office updated with any changes to allergies / dietary requirements. Thank you.
