Senior Leadership Message
I remember years ago - stage managing an outdoor stage. Various bands were performing. One of the bands had a couple of guys I had taught when they were in my intermediate class. I think I might have even taught guitar to one of them. I had a similar experience just recently when attending a meeting with my local Principals finding a recent new principal appointment was someone I had taught when she was in Year 7 & 8. Apart from making me feel really old, it does give a great deal of pleasure in seeing where children you have taught, land.
|
In these current times education seems to be becoming a political football. We are hearing words like standardisation, mandated curriculum and single approaches as the answer to all the educational needs, failures and success. I favour getting rid of the Ministry of Education and starting a “Ministry of Hope”. Ours is a hope industry. I think our mandate is to work with our young people, equipping them with the tools to achieve but more so installing in them an attitude of hope.
|
You just never know where the children of Huapai might land.

Centennial Soccer - POSTPONED
Due to overwhelming numbers of sick children and staff both at Taupaki and Huapai, the decision has been made to postpone the Centennial Cup Soccer matches which was due to be held after school today.
|
We will hold this event next term when both schools can enjoy an afternoon with healthy students and staff in the spirit it was intended.
|
Apologies for any frustration caused and thank you for your continued support.

Te Reo Māori Interest
We've had some expressions of interest from members of our staff and the wider community around opportunities to learn and practise Te Reo Māori. We've been brainstorming some options around how we might be able to start a regular hui for those who are interested. At this stage, we do not have dates or times, and we are looking to connect with anyone interested in joining us on this journey. Please email Kirstin Robinson at: kirstin.robinson@hds.school.nz

Mathex
Last week Huapai District School students took on a new challenge of competing in Mathex against 124 other schools. Sponsorship For Netball Uniforms
We are keen for our players to have new uniforms but the cost is beyond our budget. Each uniform dress is around $60 each. In order to keep a range of sizes in stock for the years going forward we need about 50 of them. Is your company keen to have its name on new netball uniforms for the school? We are looking for either one main sponsor or several sponsors to help us with the cost of this large investment of around $3,000.

We are proceeding with this and have set this for Tuesday 24th October.
|
Our thinking is this may present opportunities for parents and also may give some options to alleviate Labour weekend traffic wows.
|
NB: Labour Weekend is Monday 23rd October.
|
Huapai + will run a programme on this day for parents requiring support.

Each year we have the opportunity to trade in stickers collected from the Yummy apple range for sports gear. This is an annual promotion that has seen the school earn some great gear that is used across the school. It’s that time again to remember to collect the stickers.

A collection sheet is linked below, or each of the classrooms have one on their wall for use at school. Paper copies of the sheet can be collect from the school office should you wish.
