Senior Leadership Message
Shot Putter Jolien Boumkwo competed in the 100-meter hurdles at the European Athletics Team Championships, in Chorchow, Silesia, Poland, this weekend, answering her team's call for help in securing two points in the competition.
This news article really made me smile this week. (Link to video) Jolien goes on to say later that she would do it again. This act of kindness, generosity and sense of team speaks volumes to the character of this Belgian athlete.
It made me think of all our teams involved in our own team - Team HDS. We often have parents, staff, students and community members jumping into situations well outside of their norm, feeling out of their depth but doing it anyway - for the team. What a powerful statement of the culture of HDS - We work together to find a way to make it happen.
This week is national support staff week, a week when we publicly acknowledge our amazing Teacher Aides, Librarian, Ops Team and Groundstaff. These people are always amongst the first to “jump in” when the need arises. I think we can all agree that you too, are counted amongst our support staff - so thank YOU for all YOU do to jump in and support our school. Helping in the classroom, driving students places, offering business company support, school donations, mud run marshalling, art exhibition, putting books away, it is appreciated.
As another term rounds out, we reflect on all the achievements of the term and look forward (after a few moments of quietness) to the term ahead. It is certainly one filled to the brim with opportunities to jump in.
What lengths are you prepared to go to, to support the team?

School Donation Update
We continue to push towards our goal of 78% of parents supporting the school through their school donation. We close out the term with 55.98% of parents on board with their donation. To date we have generated $57,014 of a potential (if we had 100% support) of $101,845.
We are 4% away from our first celebration target (60%) a massive school lunch.
Our donation is the equivalent to a coffee a week. We can do this!

Breakfast Club
Breakfast club now meets in Room 10 every morning from 8.30am to 9.00am. It is a relaxed, welcoming environment where children can socialise with their friends and come and make new friends. It’s a great way to start the day!
All children need is permission from a parent / caregiver (this can be done via Kindo).
We would love to have some more helpers join our friendly breakfast club team. You only need to offer us half an hour a week. It does not have to be a long term commitment - even a term would be fantastic! Please contact stephanie.wales@hds.school.nz

Tough Guy And Gal Challenge - Helpers Please!
WE NEED YOUR HELP! THIS IS OUR ANNUAL EVENT.
Each year we have the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars for our school by providing marshals for the local Tough Guy and Gal challenge. These funds are directed into learning resources for your children. This year we require 20 adults - parent / granny / uncle / neighbour / garden club friend to help us each day. The role is standing and pointing. It can even be done from the comfort of your camp chair should you wish! If you are able to assist for a morning, please use this form to register your interest.
**there has been a duty change and we are no longer required to supply marshals for Tuesday 1st August (this is the day our school will send a group of children).
Next week a poster will go up in each classroom showing how many parent volunteers your child’s class has - first three classes to have 5 volunteers earn a hot chip lunch!
