The Connection

Week 1

Term 3

Huapai District School

July 20th 2023

Senior Leadership Message

Welcome to Term 3.

Special welcome to our new students and just as importantly, our new families. We really hope you find connection and community within our school.

I often see Terms 2 & 3 as the “business end” of the school calendar. Last term we concluded with a fabulous celebration of our children's creativity with our art exhibition, which linked our theme “around us”. This term we focus on ”before us”, looking back in our history and making connections to what we have now. Next week we hold parent teacher interviews, having released our mid term reports. These interviews are really important as we set targets for the second half of the year.

Just a thought:
There is a real sense of momentum in the school. We are really seeing some great shifts and improvement in our core business of ‘learning’. We are seeing a strong culture building in the school that is releasing leadership, character and consistency. We are seeing opportunities come our way that seem at times almost unreal. Huge praise to our students who performed at the half time break during the All Blacks vs South Africa game. To have our students taking the lion’s share of the entertainment was just so exciting. Well done to those that performed and also to Stacey Watson for being the catalyst to this opportunity.

Have a great week.

John Petrie
Principal

School Donation Update

We continue to push towards our goal of 78% of parents supporting the school through their school donation. We start this term with 57.77% of parents on board with their donation. To date we have generated $58,839 of a potential (if we had 100% support) of $101,845.

We are 2% away from our first celebration target (60%) - a massive supplied school lunch.
Your donation is the equivalent to a coffee a week. We can do this!

MUD RUN - We Need Your Help!

WE NEED YOUR HELP! THIS IS OUR ANNUAL EVENT - WE ARE ONLY A FEW PEOPLE AWAY

Each year we have the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars for our school by providing marshals for the local Tough Guy and Gal challenge. This year we require 20 adults - parent / granny / uncle / neighbour / garden club friend to help us each day. The role is standing and pointing. It can even be done from the comfort of your camp chair should you wish! If you are able to assist for a morning, please use the form below to register your interest.

A poster is up in each classroom showing how many parent volunteers your child’s class has - first three classes to have 5 volunteers earn a hot chip lunch! Room 9 and Studio 3 have earned their lunch - will your child’s class be next?

International Students

It is a pleasure to be able to reopen our school to four international students and their families this week. These students are in years 4-6. We welcome Dora, Aiden, Ella and Carrie.

Matariki

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our inaugural Matariki celebration here at school on July 14th.

Yummy Apple Sticker Promotion

Each year we have the opportunity to trade in stickers collected from the Yummy apple range for sports gear. This is an annual promotion that has seen the school earn some great gear that is used across the school. It’s that time again to remember to collect the stickers.

A collection sheet is linked below, or each of the classrooms have one on their wall for use at school. Paper copies of the sheet can be collect from the school office should you wish.
