Senior Leadership Message
“The more certain kids are that someone’s got their back, the more confident and autonomous they can be.”
As we embark on the third term of learning, I think about the impact that support and encouragement have on our children's development.
Last term, we had a student join our school. Moving to a new environment can be daunting, especially for a young person, but this child faced it with great courage. On the first day, he seemed a bit shy and unsure of making new friends, but our wonderful students quickly embraced him, making him feel welcomed and included.
One lunch time, a group of students decided to play a game of soccer. The new student, who had a passion for the sport, eagerly wanted to join in but hesitated, fearing he might not be good enough or that others might not accept them into the group. It was at this moment that one of our kids, a compassionate and empathetic student, noticed the new student standing on the sidelines, looking a little dejected.
Without hesitation, the new student was approached and warmly invited to play. His eyes lit up, and he eagerly joined the game, feeling an instant sense of belonging. Throughout the game, the new student was encouraged, being cheered on and given high-fives for every effort, regardless of the outcome. It was a simple gesture, but it made all the difference in the world to our newby.
This story serves as a reminder of the powerful impact a supportive and caring community can have on a child's life. It is our collective responsibility, as parents, teachers, and staff, to create an environment where all children feel valued and supported, enabling them to grow into confident and autonomous individuals.
Let us foster this spirit of support and encouragement, making sure that every child knows they have someone who's got their back. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our children and build a stronger, more compassionate community.
Thank you for being an integral part of our school family.
