Senior Leadership Message

"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." - Mark Van Doren

Dear families,

What a typical spring Auckland week - four seasons in one day, every day! I have noticed nature awakening around us, not only in the flora and fauna, but so too in our staff as deep learning took place during our Teacher Only Day.

On Tuesday, our teachers were immersed in a journey of self-discovery and professional development. They delved into the very essence of education and explored the intricacies of the refreshed curriculum, rediscovering our core values, and reflected deeply on their teaching practices.

Mark Van Doran’s quote resonated with me as our teachers were learners on this day. A process was nurtured that helped them uncover their own paths of discovery, fostering an environment where curiosity and exploration were encouraged, and each journey of self-discovery was cherished and guided. This is something they strive towards in their own teaching approaches with your children.

As we embrace the vibrant energy of spring, we want to continue to encourage discovery in all we aim to do. We want this approach to guide us as we cultivate an environment where every student can flourish and grow, much like the blossoms which are growing in our surroundings.

Deputy Principal

Looking Ahead To 2024

As a school, our primary focus is the wellbeing of your child. Staff spend weeks discussing the best placement for your child in 2024, taking into consideration the academic, social and emotional needs of your child as well as those of others.
If you wish to supply any additional information about your child as we work towards 2024, we encourage you to make use of this form.
Please note that the information provided here will be added to a much bigger picture to assist in the class placement process. We cannot guarantee that any / all requests will be able to be met.
This form will close Friday 3rd November.

Second Hand Uniform Sale

Do you need any uniform items for your growing child? We will hold a second hand uniform sale on Friday 10th November in Room 17 (by the sandpit) from 2:45pm - 3:15pm.
Jerseys are priced at $5 and all other uniform items are $2. Cash only.

Do you have any uniform items at home to donate? Please bring these to the school office before Friday 10th and they will be added to the sale.

Teacher Only Day Tuesday 24th October - Thank You!

Thank you very much for the support as we held this training day for staff on Tuesday. We used the day to focus on the new curriculum that schools are facing. There is a degree of caution within education at the moment with the change of Government and potential new emphasis and priorities within Education. The time was (however) well worth our commitment to build capability and understanding within the school.

St John Mufti Day

St John New Zealand is a charitable organisation that provides ambulance services, first aid training, event medical services and care for people in need. They support our communities in so many ways!

In appreciation of the incredible First Aid training they provided for us all last week, we will be holding a Mufti Day next Friday 3 November. Help us support this brilliant charity by bringing a gold coin donation next Friday and wearing an awesome outfit!

Colouring In Competition

Please find attached a digital copy of the colouring competition that went home today with some of our junior school students. The competition is open to ALL ages - even adults. This is being promoted by one of our awesome parents. Completed entries can be returned to the box in the School Office or scanned to the email address on the page.

Puberty Lessons In The Senior School (Years 5-8)

As part of our PE and Health curriculum we are legally bound to teach sexuality education. The topics covered in the sexuality education are:
  • Who am I? Ko wai au?
  • Relationships Ngā whanaungatanga
  • Staying safe Te noho haumaru
  • Growing and changing Te tipu me te huri o te tangata
The resources we use to guide these discussions are Relationships and Sexuality Education from NZ Ministry of Education and Navigating the Journey from NZ Family planning.
This unit will be delivered to our students in years 6-8 in week 7 and 8 of this term. We would like to invite you to attend a parent’s evening in the staffroom Thursday 2nd November at 5:50pm when Maree Lloyd will go through the content of the puberty lessons and answer any questions you may have.
