The Connection

Week 5

Term 4

Huapai District School

November 9th 2023

Senior Leadership Message

Being a parent is like being a gardener nurturing a plant. As a gardener, you provide the soil, water, sunlight, and nutrients that your plant needs to grow and thrive. You also try to protect it from the harsh weather conditions. This is sometimes a double edged sword - if a plant lives its whole life in a glasshouse, it can become weakened to the outside conditions and fails to thrive when replanted.

Here at Huapai, we try to provide a balance of both for our children. We take pride in providing a nurturing environment, where children are protected, supported and guided along their journey. We also take pride in equipping our children to face challenges which help shape them into students who can stand strong in the face of adversity. This week our Year 4s have pushed beyond their comfort zone, into the growth zone where challenge brings success and empowerment. Next week our Year 8s are off to Tongariro where they will learn many skills to help them on their new path towards adulthood. Our Year 2s are planning a sleepover here at school. All these students will be supported with the right conditions to thrive, but ultimately it is them who learn that even without the glasshouse they can stand strong in the face of adversity.

Whether we recognise it or not, our plants grow in their own unique way, and we can't control every aspect of their development. We have to trust in the process and enjoy the beauty and surprises that come with each new stage of growth.

Huapai District School ‘gardeners’ (parents, staff, community) are some of the very best and we are so proud of the children we are helping to grow together. Thank you for being a part of the team!

Deputy Principal

Do you have an HDS child / team / group that you would like to celebrate in the newsletter for an achievement? This Week's Stars Are:
Congratulations To Huapai Old Boys
Ethan McKolskey and Mathew Mihaljevich for their Prefect Leadership roles at Rosmini College for 2024.
Ethan will be the co-Deputy Head Boy of Rosmini College for 2024. Mathew is Head of Sport at Rosmini College for 2024. Both of these boys over the years have excelled in all they do, demonstrating and upholding the Huapai Values they acquired while at Primary School.
Well done boys! Your Academic, Leadership, and Sporting achievements are some to be proud of!
Starlight Dance
Congratulations to all the Starlight Dancers who performed beautifully at their annual concert on Sunday. They sat exams in June and gained fantastic results. The students have been practising for the concert since.
Former HDS pupil, Kylie Hopping, has been running dance classes in the community for over 25 years. Two years ago Kristie Willians joined the team bringing many years of experience and expertise! We are both very proud of the girls’ performance on the weekend.
