Senior Leadership Message

My favourite quote:

"To those who have struggled with them, the mountains reveal beauties they will not disclose to those who make no effort. That is the reward the mountains give to effort. And it is because they have so much to give and they give it so lavishly to those who will wrestle with them that people love the mountain and go back to them again and again… The mountains reserve their choice gifts for those who stand upon their summits.
- Sir Fancis Youngblood.

Last week I had the honour of attending our Year 8 camp based at Tongariro National Park. Outside of it being good for the soul, the delight was in seeing the attitude and commitment our young leaders show. To face the rafting, caving, tramps and (ultimately) “The Tongariro Crossing”! To stand on the summit and see the growth, confidence and strength gained by doing it together was just the best.

Experiences like this gives me a great deal of confidence for the future. Our children will not let us down.

Principal

Staff Updates

As we head towards the end of the year, we would like to update you on a few developments.

Resignations:
After 22 years of service and commitment to our school library, Cathy Gray is stepping back. We will have some special activities to celebrate the impact this matriarch of the school has had.
We have also accepted the resignation of Diane Thomas (Teacher Yr 5 & 6). Diane is repositioning to support her husband now based in Wellington.
Neil Cameron (working part time in our Montessori team) has resigned to reposition to the South Island.

Appointments:
Ashley Ferkins - we have appointed Ashley to our Year 7 & 8 team. Ashley is currently on a teaching “sabbatical” in London, having taught at a North Shore Intermediate for a number of years. Ashley will bring some real complimentary skills and strengths to the dynamic team we have in the senior school.
Susan Boniface is joining our year 1 team. I first met Susan as an artist in residence at a previous school. Susan carries a great deal of creative and artistic strengths. Susan has been teaching for the last 5 years at Pinehurst in the junior school.
Vanessa Lumsden has joined our Ops team with responsibility for the Library. Vanessa is a parent of the school, has volunteered and helped in the school and will be a great asset to the school and library as we look to the next steps in making our Library even better.
Isabella Dunn will join the Montessori team working 3 days per week. Isabella is a trained NZ and Montessori teacher

Classes And Structure For 2024

We are in the incredibly strong position of having very little movement of staff for 2024 and so have been able to put a plan together which continues to build on the good things happening in the school.

Here is a summary of our plans for 2024.

Property Update

We have our hall roof being replaced at the moment. We will then replace roofing over Room 17 and the admin block. The roofs of Rooms 1 - 10 will be replaced in the term 1 break.
