Senior Leadership Message

"Change is the end result of all true learning." - Leo Buscaglia

Dear families,

As we approach the end of another successful term at school, I am reminded of this quote as it leads me to reflect on the various ways we, as a community, have grown, evolved, and changed as a result of our collective and individual learning experiences.

Most weeks I am in the Year 7 & 8 space, teaching for a day. Last week, I noticed a student intensely scribbling down notes on a piece of paper. Curious, I approached her and asked what she was up to. With bright eyes, she shared her new insights into themes of ‘injustice’, a topic they are currently learning about. What struck me was not just her enthusiasm, but how she mentioned that she was writing down these facts to go home and talk about them with the rest of her family, so they could “know about the injustice that has happened in the past”.

This seemingly small moment was a testament to how learning can change our perspectives, passions, and even our roles in the lives of others. This student had moved from being a student of themes of injustice, to a teacher, all within the span of a week.

Our mission is for students to be the best they can be, whether it is through a newfound respect for a subject, a change in behaviour, or even the blossoming of a new passion – learning is at the core.

I urge every member of the Huapai community to embrace the changes that come with learning, to celebrate them, and to continue being curious. Let's strive to make every day a chance to evolve, grow, and better ourselves.

Thank you for being a part of our ever-changing, ever-growing Huapai family. Here’s to many more days of true learning and the wonderful changes that come with it!

Wishing Sports Camp students all the best for next week!

Warm regards,

Keryn Annan
Deputy Principal

Junior Maths Parent Workshop - TODAY

In this workshop, we will look at a practical breakdown of number learning for Year 0-3 children. It will focus on learning all basic facts, and the order in which they are best learned, as addition and subtraction sums to 20. It will be an opportunity to ask questions, see how you can implement quick activities at home, and a chance to pick up a few free resources to use with your children.

Please feel free to email Louise, (louise.moss@hds.school.nz) if you have any questions.

Sports Tops

This top was found at the local Op shop for sale. Please note THESE TOPS ARE SCHOOL OWNED. Any and all tees and singlets that look like this need to be back at school after your child has worn them for their sport season or tournament day.
Thank you to the family who purchased it back for us!

Yummy Apple Sticker Promotion

Each year we have the opportunity to trade in stickers collected from the Yummy apple range for sports gear. This is an annual promotion that has seen the school earn some great gear that is used across the school.

These are due in by the beginning of Week 1, Term 4 (Monday 9th October). Please hand these in to the School Office.

A collection sheet is linked, or each of the classrooms have one on their wall for use at school. Paper copies of the sheet can also be collected from the school office should you need one.

Last School Donation Prize Draw Of 2023

We are currently at 63.8% of our goal of 78% of parents supporting the school through school donation.
