The Connection

Week 7

Term 1

Huapai District School

March 21st 2024

Senior Leadership Message

The six Cs that form a huge part of our lives here at HDS are Communication, Critical thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Character and Citizenship. You may have seen these words on the stickers that your children bring home as part of the Huapai Way - “how we do things here”. It is these areas that we seek continual growth in at Huapai District School.

For the remainder of the term, our school wide focus is a deeper look at communication. For our staff and students communication means the following:
Each day our child will have the opportunity to watch a very short clip and then discuss with their class how communication can be a superpower. We will highlight the following phrases to students:
  • Naming and articulating your feelings or emotions
  • Participating and responding appropriately at school
  • Being an upstander
We are keen to have as much parent involvement as we can. This is OUR school. Please ask your child if they’ve been awarded a communication sticker and what it might have been for.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Maree Lloyd
Deputy Principal

School Donation Update

Thank you for the support through your school donation. This year’s support rate is already so much better than last year. We are already at 18%. Our first goal / reward for the children is set at 50%.

Paying your donation and claiming your tax rebate:
Please note your donation attracts an IRD 33.33% tax rebate which is claimable for this tax year if paid by 31st March 2024.

You can pay your school donations through Hero if paid in full. Alternatively, for part or full payments, you can pay via direct deposit to the school bank account to:
Huapai District School
ASB 12-3659-0025306-00

Every dollar received through school donations will be used for resources that will touch the hands of your children.
Make every school donation go a little further - Ways to Give/Gift your tax rebate:

For every donation you make over $5.00 (including the voluntary school donation), you can obtain a receipt from Hero. With these receipts, you can claim an IRD tax refund of 33.33% of each donated amount at the end of each tax year. You can even choose to regift that credit back to the school, turning every $100 donation into a $133 donation. It's a great way to make your donation go even further and is a huge help!

You can process your donation tax credit online using the tax receipt in your Hero account. It's possible to claim for donations from up to four years ago if you have not already done so.
If claiming online via myIR:
  1. When you arrive on the last page of IRD process, there is an option to 'Credit Transfer'.
  2. The Huapai District School IRD number: 52-914-116.
Alternatively, you can use the IR526 form below, and claim your donations. It is very simple to do:
  1. Print out the IR526 form
  2. Complete your details on the form
  3. In the ‘Transferring your tax credit’ section, write Huapai District School in the ‘Name of person receiving the tax credit’ box.
  4. In box 9, write the Huapai District School IRD number: 52-914-116.
  5. In box 10, enter the amount you wish to transfer. You may choose to transfer your total credit to Huapai District School, or just a portion.
  6. Sign and date the form and staple your receipts to the back.
  7. Send your completed form and receipts to the IRD
Thank you for making an impactful difference to our school.

We will be taking orders for these tomorrow (Friday) - 2.45pm- 3.15pm
We will have a table by the entrance to the school (Station Rd).
You will need to complete an order and pay the $20.00.
We will deliver the biscuits to you once they arrive.
This is a Scout Jamboree fundraiser.
See you soon.

Easter Tuesday Closed - Huapai Plus Available

This year Easter Weekend falls outside of the school holidays. The school will be closed for Easter Friday (March 29th), Easter Monday (April 1st) and Easter Tuesday (April 2nd). The rule to close schools on Easter Tuesday was first introduced in 1954. It's unclear why exactly it was introduced, but the holiday has remained in place and is part of the Education Act legislation. Therefore all schools in New Zealand are closed on Easter Tuesday.

Huapai Plus is open for bookings if you require childcare for the day. Please book at the link below.

Save The Date - MOVIE NIGHT!!!

The date for this is Thursday 11th April. Pop it in your calendar now.

Bring your picnic and let’s finish the term together.

Please advise school if you’re interested by the end of term. We have to submit paperwork and meet the cut off for school registration in order for you to go.

Does your child excel strongly in a sport? Are you interested in them participating in the National Aims Games? In the past we have had swimmers, mountain bikers and a basketball team enter.
Competitors must be over 10 years of age and under 13 years of age, as at 31st December the year before the tournament year. Competitor’s birthdates will be required on school registration documentation. For the 2024 Zespri AIMS Games, this means the accepted birth years are: 2011, 2012 and 2013. The link below will take you to the 2024 Aims Games booklet.
Please note, the school does not send a staff member to this event, arrange transport or accommodation. ALL associated costs with this tournament are up to individual families. If you wish to register your child for an event, please contact:
