Senior Leadership Message

Special Edition: A Farewell and New Beginnings

"You’ve got to follow your passion. You’ve got to figure out what it is you love – who you really are. And have the courage to do that. I believe that the only courage anybody ever needs is the courage to follow your own dreams." - Oprah Winfrey

Dear Huapai District School Community,

As I write this message, my heart is filled with a mixture of emotions. Today, I announce my resignation from the vibrant and inspiring community of Huapai District School. This decision, though difficult, is a step towards following my true passion and dream: to become an educational professional development facilitator, presenter, and events manager.

My journey at Huapai District School has been nothing short of extraordinary. It has been a place of growth, learning, and countless cherished memories. To each student, parent, and colleague, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your support, encouragement, and unwavering belief in my abilities have been the wind beneath my wings.

A special thanks to John, Maree, and the entire leadership team. Your guidance and mentorship have been pivotal in my professional journey. You have been more than leaders; you have been my mentors and friends.
To the Ops team, your dedication and hard work behind the scenes have made our school a better place for everyone. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and I am grateful for having had the opportunity to work alongside such a fantastic team.

And to the wider staff at Huapai District School, you are the unsung heroes. Your commitment to our students' education and well-being has been an inspiration. I am proud to have been part of a team that puts the needs of its students first.

As I embark on this new chapter, I carry with me the lessons and memories from Huapai District School. Though I am moving on, the spirit of this community will always be a part of who I am. I am excited about the future and look forward to the new challenges and opportunities that await.

In closing, I leave you with this: never stop believing in the power of your dreams. Follow your passion, embrace change, and remember that the courage to pursue your dreams is the greatest courage of all.

Thank you, Huapai District School, for everything.

Warm regards,

Keryn Annan
Deputy Principal

Class Placement For 2024

We are in our final phases of curating the class groupings for 2024. This is a process that takes hours and hours of work to ensure we are setting the best environment for your child and others to thrive. You will be able to see which class your child has been placed later next week in Hero. Students will have an opportunity to visit their new classes on Friday 15th and spend time getting to know their classmates and 2024 teacher.

Mowatt Cup 2023

Throughout the past eight weeks, our Year 5 to 8 students formed house teams and competed against each other in our annual Mowatt Cup tee-ball tournament.

Each team played with drive, determination and discipline in every game, in the hopes of becoming Mowatt Cup champions for their year level and earning the chance to be named the Champion of Champions winning team. Congratulations to our new 2023 Champion teams, Year 5-6 Moananui and Year 7-8 Moananui!

These two champion teams then competed against each other in a Champion of Champions game. The game was action-packed and adrenaline-filled, ending in a first-ever draw. This meant a second Champion of Champions game had to be played, and after another incredible display of skill and strategy, the game ended in a 10-7 win to our Year 7-8 team.

This strong and talented team will now go on to play against a team of teachers for the coveted All-Stars Cup. Good luck Year 7-8 Moananui!

Beyond The School Gates

This is a new section of our newsletter that is driven by you, our HDS community. Do you have an HDS child / team / group that you would like to celebrate in the newsletter for an achievement? Please email 100 words or less and a photo to office@hds.school.nz with the subject line “Beyond the school gates” and we will add it to the weekly newsletter.

This Week:
Congratulations to our U11 Huapai Storm basketball team for winning their grade this season!
Congratulations to the Double Dribblers who placed second in Division A U11 Junior Basketball League in their finals at Massey Y! The team has five players from Huapai (Benjamin George, Carter Winiata, George Wells-Rode, Max Sidler, and William Tonner) and they moved up to A Grade this season after placing second in Division B earlier this year. It was an awesome effort in a hard-fought final against the top-ranked, unbeaten, (and very tall) team from St Paul’s. Well done Dribblers! And a big thanks to coach Michael Winiata (a.k.a. Carter’s Dad) for all his work this season.
Over the weekend Chase Hopping, Tyler Hopping, Ingle Wood, Lucas Eastgate & Benji Eastgate partook in the Tag Nationals at Bruce Pullman Park.

Ingle, Tyler & Lucas played together in a U10 team, Chase in an U12 team and Benji in a U8 team. They each played 6 games over the 2 days.

They all had a fantastic weekend despite the rain! Mixed results all around but loads of fun times with their teammates is what it was all about.
