The Connection

Week 6 Term 2

Huapai District School

June 06th 2024

Senior Leadership Message

Last week our HFN hosted a school disco. Both the junior and senior events were huge successes, full of laughter, dancing and friendship - and that was just the adults! The children had a huge amount of fun with many of our seniors saying it was the best disco they’ve ever been to at school.
This is testament to the power of team. Coordinated by Laura Carr and Katie Lean, our community really stepped in to make the event so successful. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Many hands make, not only light work, but also make a massive impact for our children. A huge thank you to everyone who was involved or supported the discos. The funds raised from these discos are being spent on learning resources for your children.

We have three more full school community events coming up where there is the opportunity to make a big impact.
  1. We have a full school hangi being put down for Matariki which will not only bring our community together but also raise money for a kapa haka uniform for the students. More information within this newsletter of how you can assist.
  2. We have our annual local Mud Run marshalling event in early August. A few hours of your time in a team can help us raise thousands for learning resources.
  3. Our Math-a-thon launches this week. We will be sending booklets home with information on how you could help.
Thank you for being there for your children, thank you for being there for your school, thank you for being on the team!

Breakfast Club Helpers

Are you able to spare 40 minutes, 8:30am - 9:20am any morning during the week to help with Breakfast Club?
Please contact Stephanie Wales HERE

Yummy Apple Stickers

Please start collecting the stickers off the Yummy Apples. Last year we were able to purchase a bag of basketballs and a bag of netballs as well as a large stack of cones with the money raised. These go directly to our students for use in school. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Stickers can be collected on the collection sheet. There are copies of these sheets available in your child’s class or at the front office.

Attendance Update

In April 2024, the Government announced a regular attendance target of 80 percent of students to be present for more than 90% of the term by 2030. Another key area we could improve is in getting to school on time.

Here is where we are tracking based on last weeks data:

New Zealand Weekly School Rate is = 90.9%

Huapai District School = 77%

School Donations Update - We are now at 38%

Thank you to all those who have paid their school donation.

Today your child will bring home their Math-a-thon booklet. This is our bi-annual fundraiser and makes a huge difference to our school community.
Please get behind us and raise the roof!

Every dollar counts and every child will have the opportunity to learn number facts that they will remember forever!

All you have to do is set up the online page for your child/ren and then work with your child to learn the facts over the next three weeks. There are awesome prizes to be won.

We would like to give a special shout out to DOMINOS KUMEU, who have once again shown generosity in supplying one of the major class prizes for the Athon.

Clearing Bell 3:15pm

Our school clearing bell rings at 3:15pm. We ask that you please leave the school grounds at this time. Recently, we have been dealing with a number of situations where children are playing after school unsupervised and involved in injury. We also have had situations where even under supervision the impact on office staff about to leave in supporting injury, is becoming a more common experience. We ask that you do not bring your children to school before 8:30am and we ask that you collect your child at 3.00pm.
This will assist those families whose children want “just one more turn” on the playground by having a definitive end time. It will also assist our Huapai+ team more easily identify which children are staying behind each day and allows Garry to be able to do property maintenance safely. Children arriving before 8:30am and children who are on grounds after 3:15pm will be taken to Huapai+ for supervision and you will be invoiced.

Change of Clothes

Can you please ensure that your child is coming to school with a spare change of clothes (uniform if possible) in their bag, in case a change is needed throughout the day. While we do have a few spare items in the school office, these are for first aid emergencies only. If your child requires a change of clothes but does not have one, we may need to call you to come and collect them or to bring a change of clothes in.

Tough Guy And Gal Challenge

Our school enters a large group each year. This year we will participate in the event held on TUESDAY 6th August. Please use the link below to register your child online. Please indicate on the form for “teacher to collect” as this links all our registrations together.

Mud Run

Can you assist us earning thousands of dollars with a few hours of your time?

This is our annual fundraiser. This year our days are Tuesday 6th August, Thursday 8th August and Friday 10th August. Please ask your family, neighbours and friends. Grannies and Grampas totally welcome! You can even bring a chair if needed.
