Senior Leadership Message

The power of sharing an idea

This week I was working with a group of staff on a project. We had encountered a sticking point and we weren’t progressing. We stopped wrestling with it, “put the problem on the table” both figuratively and literally and discussed how we could each view this differently. We each shared our ideas, both big and small. No thought was turned down. It was one small word that changed the perspective and moved us forward in unison. The project was revitalised once again and on a forward momentum.

We see this time and time again at HDS. A staff member, a child or a member of our wider school community will bring a little seed of an idea or a fresh perspective and it can hold so much power. It was one of our very youngest who suggested that it would be fun to eat ice cream at school. The thought was stored away and brought out a few months later - sure, let’s integrate that as part of our house rewards.

We thank you, our school community, for the ideas and fresh perspectives that you bring. Together we keep moving forward.
Thank you for what you bring.

*The small word was growth. Watch this space in a few months time to see how this project turned out.

Deputy Principal

Attendance Update

In April 2024, the Government announced a regular attendance target of 80 percent of students to be present for more than 90% of the term by 2030. Another key area we could improve is in getting to school on time.

Here is where we are tracking based on last weeks data:

New Zealand Weekly School Rate is = 91.1%

Huapai District School = 77.9%
