Principal's Message
My primary school days were spent at a small three teacher school, AND we had a school pool almost identical to our Huapai school pool! Funny it seemed so much bigger when I was child. We held our school swimming sports in the school pool, just like we have done at our pool this week.
There are so many things about our school that still holds fast to our kiwi school traditions. It makes our place pretty special. An unsettling issue we have surfaced this year is how many children were hesitant to participate in a swimming race even in our little pool. I suspect this is a reflection of lack of opportunity over the last few years. We need to address this and promote higher levels of instruction for these children. Water is such a strong element to our kiwi traditions.

Possible Teachers Strike Action Thursday 16th March
You may be aware that teachers and principals are currently in negotiations around their respective collective employment agreements. To this end, teachers are currently voting to determine whether they will take strike action in support of their claim and to encourage the government to provide the resources that will enable them to undertake their responsibility to children, their parents, and the wider community effectively.
If teachers and principals vote to strike, this action will occur on Thursday the 16th of March. Whilst it is hoped that this will not occur, this information is provided to allow you time to plan to care for your children should the strike action take place.
There is an announcement expected today at 5.00pm. If this is to proceed, we will clarify in separate communications the levels to which we will be able to remain open. It is my personal hope that given the level of interruption experienced locally, that strike action does not proceed.
