Week 1

Term 2

Huapai District School

May 02nd 2024

Senior Leadership Message

Welcome back to Term 2!

A special welcome to our new families, it is just a real delight to see your children join our school confidently and settling quickly into the culture of their class.

We often speak in the school of being a place of hand, head, and heart, and balance this with the phrase “we choose to build in the heads and hearts of our people”. Our head phrase references the theories of our teaching practice, whilst our heart phrase points towards the values, beliefs and strengths of the individual ie their passions.

Our school is very much a school of head and heart. There’s colour, focus on the individual, and room to bring this to the classroom. I was giving a blood sample recently, and the promotion on the wall said “We see people”. Too often we are caught up in the urgent task. Keeping children at the centre of what we do, is so important.

We are looking forward to a great term in front of us.

John Petrie
Principal

Road Safety - Crossing The Road

We have had concerning reports from our community around the safety of our tamariki and parents when crossing surrounding streets and not paying attention to oncoming cars.

Here are some precautions to take when crossing the road:
  • Look towards oncoming traffic.
  • Never assume a driver has seen you when you are about to cross the road, its your responsibility to save yourself.
  • Avoid crossing the road where drivers may not be able to see you.
  • Wait for a suitable gap in the traffic flow before crossing the road.
  • Use the pedestrian crossing where available.
