Principal's Message
When I was in Standard 2 we were set the task of drawing a dinosaur. Drawing is not my strong suit. I drew the best T-Rex the world had ever seen. I was sooo proud of him, his head shape was perfect, I’d taken time to check the teeth shape matched those in the book, I committed to making his eyes look realistic and the arms took me a whole week to get right. I was even allowed to do it on “the good cartridge paper” - (if you know, you know). Everyone said it was great.
|
When I was about ¾ of the way through, my teacher said “he needs to fill the whole page”. She didn’t even mention anything about the amazing jaw. I was thrown. But I had a plan. I rubbed out his feet and quickly made his legs about half a page long.
|
The end result was a disaster. He no longer looked any good and I was devastated. The teacher told me the legs looked funny. I can still see the image in my head. I can still remember that feeling.
I am SO glad our school recognises and celebrates the effort and learning journey of our students. We celebrate not only the big wins, but also the small wins along the way, the individualism and creativity of children, the way they have courage to step outside their comfort zone, their communication skills, their effort and resilience, their growth in academic or sporting ability. This is a school of which I am so proud to be a part.
|
Our school celebrates the effort of well drawn T-Rexs… whether they fill the whole page or not!

Teachers Strike Day
Our thanks to our teachers who were willing to sit in that middle ground teetering between pushing (striking) for improvements for teachers and schools, and the needs right in front of us - for our children and community. Our thanks also to the Teachers Union (NZEI) who recognised there are some communities and some schools that could be exempted from the strike action.
|
I think our school walked this pathway well.

School Donations
Last week we sent promotion emails to our parents as we seek to see parents helping the school by paying your school donation. This partnering with the school is a key part to our success and ability to resource our school and children. Thank you to those who have already responded. Remember, your school donation attracts a 30% tax rebate. Payments need to be made by 31st March to get this refund.
|
As of Wednesday this week we have had 19.9% of our families partnering with us by paying their school donation. Our goal is 78% partnering with the school.
