The Connection

Week 10 Term 2

Huapai District School

July 04th 2024

Senior Leadership Message

The power of community is alive and well in Huapai!

This has really been highlighted for us as a school in the past few weeks. When the idea of a school hangi was born at last year’s Matariki celebration, we didn’t really know how the details were going to play out. A few tentative conversations were started and these quickly turned into a snowball of support and people putting their hands forward with offerings of help both on the day and behind the scenes. Much of the success of our Hangi is down to “someone who knows someone who knows someone” linking together, each playing a role in creating an amazing experience for our community. We were overwhelmed and truly grateful for everyone who reached out to us.

The same feeling is evident with our mud run marshals and Mathathon fundraisers. People are reaching out to show their support for the school in an incredible way. We are so proud of the culture our school has, one of all working together for a common goal - together we are better!
Thank you for the role you play in this culture.

Maree Lloyd
Deputy Principal

Attendance Update

In April 2024, the Government announced a regular attendance target of 80 percent of students to be present for more than 90% of the term by 2030. Another key area we could improve is in getting to school on time.

Here is where we are tracking based on last weeks data:

New Zealand Weekly School Rate is = 91.1%

Huapai District School = 78.5%

Mud run volunteer update

Thank you to everyone who has registered to be a marshall. We are thrilled to say we are making great progress towards our goal.
We are sorted Tuesday, but we're still on the hunt for 5 people for Wednesday 7th and 1 person for Friday 9th August.
If you are able to help, please click the button below

Quote from one of last year's Marshalls

“If you’re on the fence about volunteering for this... do it! It’s really easy and lots of fun. You’re standing (or sitting if you bring a chair) in the paddock showing kids where to run next, and unless you want to, you wont get muddy or wet. It takes a few hours, but there’s phone reception at the show grounds if you need it so you can work from the paddock! Totally suitable for grandparents as well as parents and watching the muddy kids having a blast is great!”

Our school enters a large group each year. This year we will participate in the event held on TUESDAY 6th August. Please use the link below to register your child online.
Please indicate on the form “teacher to collect” as this links all our registrations together.

A massive thank you to all of the participants of the Math-A-Thon challenge this year. It has officially closed with the school raising a magnificent $27, 995. We can not thank you enough to all of the families who helped make this happen. Our children went into the testing with confidence and many learnt new facts that they will hopefully remember forever!

For the children who have raised the greatest totals and for those who won a spot prize, an assembly will be held early next term and caregivers will be notified. We can confirm that our top earner is Shayden Kumar
in Studio 2B . Amazing!
