Term 1

Huapai District School

Principal's Message

We do not remember the days, we remember the moments.
- Cesare Pavese

The first concert I ever attended was Boyz II Men. I was an eleven year old in awe of this American R’n’B group whom I knew every word to every song they produced.

My father was the lucky one who chaperoned me to Mt Smart stadium under The Big Top. I sat on the bleachers with the biggest grin, tapping my feet and singing out loud. I remember looking at the stage, mesmerised, then looking back at dad thankfully, knowing at that moment it would be one I would never forget.

Last week, I re-lived this experience by taking my son, at eleven years old, to his first ever concert, One Republic. I consciously took a moment and watched him. His eyes wide and sparkling, his gaze back at me looking to ensure I was living in the moment as well, his top-of-the-lungs singing, all sparked joy of being in an arena with 7000 people doing exactly the same thing. We will remember this moment forever.

In the school context, our goal is to create similar moments. Moments that will live in the heads and hearts of our students forever. I believe this year will bring those moments as we strive to be creative and innovative and at the same time bring a solid base of foundational skills.

Juniors (Year 1-4) will be 5:30pm-7pm and Seniors (Year 5-8) from 7:30pm-9pm.
Lots of glow in the dark items, chips, drinks and sweets to purchase inside.

House T-Shirts

They're back!
We are excited to advise that we now have house t-shirts! Perfect for sports events and house mufti days. These will be a compulsory part of the school uniform this year as children enter our school and for the full school from 2024. The t-shirts are $25 each and are available in a range of sizes from our normal uniform provider. Want to get one now? You can shop at the link below.

Damage To School

Over the last two weeks we have incurred damage to the school from having older children climbing on the roofs of our buildings. The Hall guttering was smashed a week back. That aside, it is not a safe thing to do. If you happen to see this occur after hours i.e. when walking through the school, a photo would be very helpful in tracking these people down and serving them with trespass notices.

Ice Blocks

Our HFN will be selling ice blocks and drinks for $1 each at the school gates after school tomorrow (Friday). The funds raised through this ongoing project will go towards camp fees for students who are unable to otherwise attend.

Powhiri Tomorrow

Friday 24th March
Tomorrow we welcome our new families to school. Email invitations have been sent to the families. We invite those adults to bring their children with them to the staffroom tomorrow morning when the 9am bell goes.

Go Zen

Over the past few years, we have noticed a rise in the number of students and adults who are dealing with anxiety. We have had many enquiries from parents asking for advice and strategies for their children. As a school, we are fortunate to be able to integrate the Go Zen program into our Health curriculum this year. Health coach Roz Ryan will be delivering the workshops alongside the classroom teachers throughout the school. Please find attached an information sheet for the course. More information can be found at gozen.com. Should you wish, Roz is available for 1:1 follow up sessions with you and your family. Please contact roslyn.proto@gmail.com
